Description of Event: This
old-timey agricultural fair attracts an average of
325,000 visitors each year. Aside from thee variety
of typical attractions one expects to find at such
an event--rides, games, exhibits, cooking and other
contests, entertainment, food, etc,--there is
Yesterday Village and its excellent live bluegrass
music.
Yesterday
Village is a perfect backdrop
for some of the region's and country's finest
bluegrass musicians, who perform in this informal,
rustic setting. The dynamic bluegrass foursome
consists of Craig Smith and Scott Huffman (who
perform nationally with bluegrass star Laurie
Lewis), as well Jeff Foxhall and Robert Sprye. All
are locals from the region the fair serves.
History of Site/Event: The
fair began in 1882 as a grain exhibition in
Salem. It expanded over time
and moved to its current location in 1952. Bluegrass
music at yesteryear village has been attracting
audiences for several years.
Description of
Site/Facility: Yesterday village is reconstructed from log buildings. It showcases
crafts and music of days gone by in
North Carolina's northwest
piedmont region. including a blacksmith shop, tin
smithing, weaving on a loom, antiques and restored
farm machinery displays. For more information,

The rest of the fair looks like a very
attractive, large agricultural fair.
Significance of Site/Event to the Community: The festival adds another reason for area residents to have
fun and celebrate their region’s and state’s
heritage.
